Kit and caboodle，咋一看这个短语还真有点“丈二和尚摸不着头脑”，两个似乎没有一点关系的单词kit和caboodle拼在一起会是什么意思呢？这是一个美国俚语，意思是the entire lot of people or things（所有的人或物）。

说到caboodle的来历，有很多种说法。我们先来看一下boodle这个词的来历，据说，boodle来源于荷兰语中的单词boedel，意思是“财产”。Boodle前面加上一个前缀ca又是什么意思呢？ca和德语中的前缀ge有关，加上前缀ca后，caboodle的意思就是the whole boodle, 也就是所有的财产。Kit作名词用时，有“成套材料”的意思，kit和caboodle连在一起就是everything and all of everything的意思。
