Grass-roots judicial work needs strengthening

Senior Chinese leader Luo Gan said here Wednesday that judicial work at the grass-roots level should be strengthened, noting it is important to maintaining social stability and building a harmonious society.

"Judicial work at the grass-roots level has bearings on the overall situation of the judicial work of the country," said Luo, secretary of the Committee of Political Science and Law under the CPC Central Committee, at a national work conference on grass-roots judicial work.

Luo, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, called for beefing up intermediation work, improving the services of lawyers, notaries, consultants and legal assistance, promoting dissemination of knowledge of laws and regulations and advancing the system of democracy and rule according to law at the grass-roots level.

He also made other instructions at the conference.
