GLASGOW, Sept 1 (Reuters) - Celtic have included a clause in Chinese defender Du Wei's contract that could end the deal in January if the international fails to settle at the club, chief executive Peter Lawwell said on Thursday.

Du Wei set for Celtic in race against timeWe've signed a four-year deal, but there is a break in January, the purpose of which is really just to see how Du Wei settles over the next few months," Lawwell told a news conference.

"He's coming straight from China, which obviously has a very different lifestyle and culture, and we just need to wait and see how he settles."

Du, 23, signed for Celtic from Shanghai Shenua on Wednesday's transfer deadline day.

"I was always very confident that I would come here and I never doubted that there was any problem," Du said.

"Everybody, including Celtic, tried to get me here and my own club Shanghai Shenua were very supportive.

"So, I believed that I would come here before he transfer window closed," added Du, who spent a week on trial with Celtic last month.

"When I came here last time for three days it was such a short period, but the fans were fantastic and the people were very kind and very warm. I felt really comfortable here," Du said.
