converted from the penalty spot in the 10th minute after new signing Patrick
Vieira went down in the area.
But a neatly fashioned strike from midfielder Andres Iniesta midway through
the second half and a spectacular drive from Giovanni van Bronckhorst three
minutes later put the Catalans in front.
Juve striker David Trezeguet levelled the game with another penalty a minute
from time after a clear foul by Edmilson and Fabio Capello's side secured
victory 4-2 in the shoot out.
It was the first time since 1994 that Barcelona had lost the Hans Gamper
trophy, the traditional curtain-raiser to the Catalan club's season.
Barca begin the defence of their crown with a match at promoted Alaves on
Saturday, while Juve start theirs at home to Chievo Verona on Sunday.
