Investments boost Tibet's rapid development Tibet has seen rapid economic and social development thanks to an investment of 6.4 billion yuan or 790 million US dollars in the past decade, . The Autonomous Region has experienced an annual growth rate of 12 percent for the fourth consecutive year since 2001, its fastest development period in history. The central government made the decision to aid Tibet at a meeting in 1994. Fifteen local governments throughout the country were called upon to join the campaign to advance Tibet's development. So far 1,700 projects have been completed or are underway in Tibet. Its infrastructure and agricultural base have been substantially upgraded and there is a surplus of animal products and grain. The projects are contributed to by China's provincial governments, major
cities and large-scale state firms and they cover agriculture, animal husbandry,
transport, communications and urban construction to name a few.
