MOSCOW - China's first man in space, Yang Liwei, said on a visit to Moscow that he would like to fly in Russia's planned Kliper spacecraft when he met the head of the Russian space agency, Anatoly Perminov, AFP reported.

"I would love to fly in this modern craft," he said. "I am convinced that the Chinese and Russian peoples can make their contribution to the conquest of space by working hand in hand."

Yang, who made China's first orbital flight of 21 hours in October 2003, received a medal from Perminov bearing the likeness of Russia's Yuri Gagarin, who beat him to it by some 42 years.

He gave the Russian space chief a watch he had taken with him on his 21-hour flight.

Yang had earlier climbed aboard a mock-up of the six-seat Kliper, which is planned to fly in 2012, and visited the Russian cosmonaut training centre and mission control near Moscow.
