6 insurgents killed, 3 US soldiers wounded in eastern Afghanistan

Six insurgents were killed and three US service members and an Afghan
interpreter were wounded during a clash in eastern Afghanistan on Tuesday, the
US-led coalition forces said Thursday.
"Afghan and US forces were conducting offensive operations near Wazikwa in
Paktika province, in order to defeat and disrupt enemy activity," said the
coalition in a new release.
The Afghan and US patrol made contact with insurgents near Wazikwa, it added.
The insurgents fled shortly afterwards toward a nearby cave complex.
Afghan and US forces pursued the combatants toward the cave complex, killing
one. The three US soldiers and interpreter were wounded during the fight.
Several hours later during pursuit operations the same Afghan and US patrol
came into contact with additional insurgents, resulting in five deaths in
action.
