Beijing is expected to embrace the heaviest rainfalls in years in the coming days due to the influences of Typhoon Matsa, published reports said.

The Chinese capital would embrace an average rainfall of 60mm Monday and Tuesday, with the rainfall in mountainous areas reaching 100mm, according to Beijing Star Daily.

Some 40,000 residents living in mountainous areas under high level of landslide threat would be evacuated before the rainfalls arrive, the Beijing News reported. The areas of middle or low landslide threat level will also be closely monitored.

Reservoirs have been ordered to discharge water to embrace the potential flood.

Road authorities were demanded to ensure no road in the city be severely flooded. Firemen will come to the rescue in case of severe flooding, according to the Beijing Times.

The rainfalls were unlikely to be accompanied by strong winds, said Yang Keming, an expert with the National Meteorological Station told sina.com, one of China's web portals.

Typhoon Matsa battered East China after landing on the Ganjiang Township, Yuhuan County of East China's Zhejiang Province Saturday, killing seven people and causing billions of yuan in direct economic losses.
