Peng Shui cruises to last eight at Acura Classic

Chinese rising star Peng Shuai tripped up Dinara Safina of Russia to book a place in the quarter-finals at the Acura Classic WTA tournament in San Diego.

The Chinese teenager stunned the 16th-seeded Russian in straight sets 7-6 (7-2), 6-0.

The 19-year-old has reached the final eight in three WTA tournaments this year.

In third-round play, Japan's Ai Sugiyama ousted second-seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova 2-6, 6-4, 6-4, while Bulgarian Sesil Karatantcheva blew out American Mashona Washington 6-1, 6-2.

Unseeded Anna Chakvetadze upset compatriot Elena Likhovtseva 6-3, 6-1 to become the only Russian still standing in the event.

This U.S. Open Series event will pay its 2005 champion $189,000.
