China recovers 1.6b yuan of public fund

China has recovered 1.6 billion of the 2.5 billion yuan of public funds held illegally by officials in the country, in the first half of the year.

Official statistics show that the misuse of the 2.5 billion yuan public funds by officials has been found in 36 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities.

571 officials had illegally lent public money to their relatives and friends. 59 of the officials were sentenced to jail while others were also punished.
