VIENTIANE: Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing yesterday reiterated China's support for the strengthening of regional co-operation in East Asia.

Li made the remark during an ASEAN+3 meeting in Laos, featuring foreign ministers from all 10 ASEAN countries along with those from China, the Republic of Korea (ROK) and Japan.

ASEAN, as the initiator of East Asian co-operation, should play a major role in building partnerships between East Asian nations, said Li.

China's foreign minister also pledged that his country would continue to support and take part in East Asian co-operation.

Li arrived in Laos on Tuesday evening to attend the ASEAN+3 Foreign Ministers' Meeting and pay an official visit to the country which neighbours China.

He left Vientiane for Yangon yesterday evening to begin a 24-hour official visit to Myanmar.

ASEAN+3 expressed welcome and support for the recent resumption of the Six-Party Talks in Beijing.
