At least four miners were poisoned to death by gas at a coal mine in Linfen City of north China's Shanxi Province Saturday night, local government announced Sunday.

The city's administration on coal mine safety said it has not yet found out the exact number of the miners working underground when the accident happened at 21:55 Saturday at the coal mine in the Tanghou Village of Puxian County.

The coal mine was ordered to suspend operation early this year for lack of safety facilities, according to the administration.

A vice mayor of Wuzhou City has arrived at the site to supervise rescue work. Investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
