7 securitymen, 12 guerrillas killed in mid-western Nepal (Agencies) Updated: 2005-07-23 13:03
At least seven security personnel and 12 anti-government guerrillas were
killed in clashes in mid-western Nepal, the Nepali army said in
Kathmandu Saturday.
"At least seven security personnel killed on Friday in a landmine explosion
planted by the guerrillas at Kelain Khola area of Goltakuri village in Dang
district, some 400 km west of Kathmandu," Royal Nepal Army No.19 Brigade at
Tulsipur of the district said in a press statement.
The decreased security personnel included four army personnel and three
policemen, the statement noted, adding, "One army man was injured in the
incident, who was taken to central Kathmandu for treatment."
The joint security force team deployed from Rajapur area of the district was
caught up in the booby trap set up by the guerrillas, the statement said.
The clashes ensued after the guerrillas attacked the security team that was
deployed for protecting Nepal Telecom's tower at Goltakuri area of the district,
the statement added.
