Ghana midfielder Michael Essien was quoted as saying on Tuesday that he wanted to leave French champions Lyon for Chelsea. "I want to leave," Essien told French sports daily L'Equipe. "I want to play in England at Chelsea."

Lyon were unavailable for immediate comment. Club president Jean-Michel Aulas has turned down offers from the English champions and has repeatedly been saying that Essien was not for sale.

The player, however, said that he would not stay. Lyon were due to leave for South Korea on Tuesday to play the Peace Cup tournament. Essien told l'Equipe he would not go.
