Soccer players from Britain's Manchester United will speak out against the trafficking of women and children in China as part of a new public service campaign funded by the team, it said Monday.

The team will donate US$400,000 to the prevention, rescue and rehabilitation of children and women at risk or victims of trafficking in southern Sichuan province, a press release said.

The project will be done together with the Chinese government and UNICEF, it said.

Players will also record 30-second anti-trafficking and child protection spots to be broadcast throughout China, it said.

"We are delighted that Manchester United has added its powerful voice to speak out against this heinous crime and welcome the clubs funding," said UNICEF China representative Dr. Christian Voumard.
