The Minhang District People's Court ordered a dog owner surnamed Chen to pay 40,000 yuan (US$4,819) to a man surnamed Piao who was frightened by the animal and suffered injuries as a result.

The mishap occurred on January 19 when Piao pedaled his bike near Chen's residence and the 15-kilogram dog rushed after him. Piao told the court he was so scared that he fell off the bicycle and suffered a broken bone. Piao said Chen should be required to provide compensation because he failed to keep his dog under control.
