China's State Oceanic Administration is sending a team of scientists to the Arctic in July to conduct a year of comprehensive research.

An official with the administration, Qu Tanzhou, told reporters Wednesday in Beijing that the 21 team members will work at China's Yellow River research station on the Spitsbergen Islands in Norway.

They will undertake 11 research programs covering geology, glaciology, bionomics, climatology and atmospheric physics.

They will also conduct joint research programs with Arctic Circle countries.
