Sudden collapse

Cunha, who recently helped Leiria avoid relegation from the Portuguese SuperLiga a year after joining from Vitória SC, collapsed and died during a casual game of football with friends on Saturday. Leiria club doctor Amilcar Silva said the left-sided Barreiro-born player had never shown any signs of health problems in examinations.

Cardio-respiratory arrest

Cunha suffered from a suspected cardio-respiratory arrest during the game in Montemor-o-Novo, 70km outside Lisbon. He played 85 league matches and scored five goals for Guimar?es before signing for Leiria, whom he represented 15 times last season.
