China to close down unregistered Web Sites

The Chinese Ministry ofInformation Industry has decided to temporarily close down alldomestic web sites that fail to register with localtelecommunications authorities before June 30.

The decision was announced here on Friday according to China'stwo official methods on the management of Internet InformationServices and Registration of Non-Profitable Internet InformationServices.

All web sites temporarily closed down would get a 10-day graceperiod to fulfill their registration procedures with localtelecommunication authorities, sources of the Ministry ofInformation Industry said.

Web site operators can register themselves through a specialmanagement system: http//www.miibeian.gov.cn.

The registration, which started in February, aims to controldomestic Internet information services.
