Earth bank collapse kills 3 pupils in Hubei

Three primary school students were confirmed dead on Monday for being buried by a collapsed earth bank near Hanjing River in Xiangfan City of central China's Hubei Province, a local newspaper reports on Tuesday.

The junior victims, aged 9 to 12, had been missing since Sunday night and their bodies were found under the collapsed bank located near a remote stream in Xiangyang District on Monday morning.

According to the newspaper, the soil from the formerly four-meter bank had completely intercepted the stream where the three victims were swimming when the accident occurred, probably at around 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.

The remoteness of the accident site affected timely rescue efforts and led to the three children's death, says the paper.
