Blast kills 9 in N. China province

An explosion killed nine people and injured eight others in an iron mine located in Shahe City of north China's Hebei Province early Wednesday morning, according to the Hebei Provincial Work Safety Supervision Administration.

The above-ground explosion occurred at 2"Nine miners got killed on the spot. Eight people were injured and hospitalized.

Local police are investigating into the cause of the explosion.

The accident-hit mine is situated immediately adjacent to the iron mines where a conflagration claimed 70 lives on November 20, 2004.
