At the order of the municipal government, TV stations in Beijing have called off broadcast of a TV commercial promotion for an oral liquid product that cast a famous actress and her son.

The Beijing Daily newspaper quoted an official with the municipal industry and trade administration as saying that it's improper for public figures, including film and TV stars, to promote products in ads as consumers. They may easily mislead the public.

The official said the oral liquid product sells well in many parts of the country, as consumers have absolute faith in its efficacy.

The administration has launched a crackdown on ads that employ public figures to promote products as consumers, patients and experts.
