Reds sign exciting midfield starlet

Manchester United have announced the signing of John Obi Mikel from FC Lyn Oslo.


England club Manchester United have announced they have signed a contract with the 18-year old central midfield player John Obi Mikel of Nigeria. [manutd.com]

A club statement on the signing reads:

"Manchester United is delighted to announce that it has today concluded an agreement with the Norwegian club, FC Lyn Oslo, in respect of the central midfield player John Obi Mikel.

"John Obi Mikel, 18, was born in Plato State in Nigeria on 22 April 1987."

Mikel had reportedly attracted interest from United's Premiership rivals Chelsea.

The 18-year-old has been named in the Nigerian training squad for this year's FIFA World Youth Championship and he impressed during the Norwegian League campaign as FC Lyn Oslo finished sixth.
