China's output of sedan cars was 246,000 in March, down 1.6 percent from the same month last year, according to statistics released Friday by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

For the first three months, the output totaled 566,900, down 2.8 percent.

According to the NBS report, the downward trend of car output had been clearly slowed in March. A big recovery was registered compared with the output of 144,000 in February.

According to the report, the major reason for the recovery was the rising sales of economy cars.
