Yao Ming 'almost sure' to be China's 'model worker'

Yao Ming, playing for Houston Rockets in the NBA league of the United States, is "almost sure" to be cited for China's "national model worker" award, an official with the selection committee said here Friday.

"There is almost no problem for Yao's selection," Yin Weimin, deputy director of the office of the preparatory committee for citing this year's the national model and advanced workers, told Xinhua.

Yao's nomination has aroused controversy in China since the award candidates' name list was made public last Thursday.
