'Net Media Tour in Shandong' launched in Jinan By Wang Wei (chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2005-04-21 13:51 "The National Net Media's
Reporting Tour in Shandong" was launched on April 17 in Jinan, the capital of
East China's Shandong Province. The chief leaders of Shandong, including Sun
Shoupu, vice governor of the People's Government of Shandong Province, and Wang
Min, the minister of the Propaganda Department of Shandong Provincial
Government, presented at the ceremony.
Over 60 reporters from major national and local net medias will cover news in
eight Shandong cities - Jinan, Liaocheng, Taian, Qufu, Linyi, Qingdao, Weihai,
and Yantai - from April 17-26.
Later, Li Deming, the director general of the Shandong Tourism Bureau,
answered questions by the reporters at a press conference.
Alongside the rapid development of the peninsula economy, the tourism
industry has been expanding year by year in Shandong.
First, Shandong has natural advantages -- a long and beautiful coastline and
a pleasant climate.
Second, Shandong has rich tourism resources, such as, for example, the
Mountain Tai, the Spring City (Jinan), the Water City (Liaocheng), the Cultural
City (Qufu), the Red Tourism Base (Linyi), the Partner City of the 2008 Beijing
Olympics (Qingdao), the Penglai Pavilion, and the Most Fascinating City in
China(Yantai); all of these resources have become more and more attractive
around the world.
Third, the People's Government of Shandong Province is immensely
concentrating on the development of the tourism industry by investing much in
tour-related constructions and the improvement of the facilities in some scenic
spots.
For example, the government has invested in five international airports
(including a newly built Jianan International Airport) and a new electrical
railway (from Jinan to Qingdao) to provide more convenient transportation for
the domestic and foreign tourists.
The tourism economy has become one part of Shandong's pillar economy. In
addition, the development of the tourism will also promote sound economic
development.
Shandong's tourism revenue reached 76.76 billion yuan (US$9.27 billion) last
year, up 41.4 percent over 2003. More and more foreign firms have recognized
Shandong via tourism, with the Sino-Japanese and Sino-Korean joint ventures
(JVs) in Shandong booming in recent years.
Therefore, such factors have led to the belief that Shandong's tourism
industry will have a wonderful prospect, as many believe that the province's
golden coastline, rich culture, and hospitable people will attract many tourists
and investors.
