Rowing will be included in the Paralympics for the first time at the 2008 Beijing Games.

The International Paralympic Committee said Tuesday that all disability categories would be eligible, with coxed fours, single sculls and doubles likely to be contested.

The rowing events will involve equipment adapted by the athlete, rather than the sport being adapted to the user. Most Paralympic sports are classified by disability rather than the sport.

The IPC, based in Bonn, Germany, said 20 sports would be on the program of the Beijing Paralympics, set for Sept. 6-17, 2008.
