IBM, Network Appliance team up on storage solutions
Storage solution big name Network Appliance partnered with IBM on April 6, 2005 to drive information on demand solutions and to expand IBM's portfolio of storage solutions. As part of the relationship, the Big Blue will sell IBM branded solutions based on Network Appliance's network attached storage (NAS) and iSCSI/IP SAN solutions, as well as associated software offerings. According to the research house International Data Corp (IDC), NetApp was the revenue share leader in both NAS and iSCSI in 2004. With the partnership, NetApp products will penetrate into more countries through IBM's distribution networks. The agreement also promotes enhanced integration of NetApp applications with IBM Tivoli Storage Manager. In addition, IBM will become NetApp's preferred supplier of tape systems for NetApp customers. "We expect this relationship to be mutually beneficial long-term as we roll out our joint solutions over the coming year," said Dan Warmenhoven, Network Appliance Chief Executive Officer. The storage of information in an on demand business environment is critically important as customers are faced with a deluge of data. Information on demand can help customers orchestrate major portions of the information strategy picture and achieve better business alignment. |
