An exhibition of Tibetan mastiffs held in Tianjin saw one dog named Golden Egg fetch a price of 10 million yuan (US$1.2 million).

The breed, which originally lived in Tibetan Plateaus about 4,000 metres above sea level, is one of China's unique canine species and has a reputation of being one of the most defensive dogs in the world.

Recently, Tibetan mastiffs have become pets to many wealthy urban residents, the Tianjin Morning Post reports.
