3月28日，由国民党副主席江丙坤率队的“国民党大陆参访团”抵达广州，由8人组成的访问团将于29日上午拜谒广州黄花岗七十二烈士墓，次日转往南京拜谒中山陵，随后到北京香山碧云寺祭拜孙中山衣冠冢。这是国民党56年来首次正式组团访问大陆，台湾传媒更用“破冰之旅”来形容这次行程所代表的意义。新华社报道如下：P.K. The year 2005 is the 80th anniversary of the death of Dr. Sun Yat-sen and the 94th anniversary of the Huanghuagang Uprising in Guangzhou, Chiang said.

Cenotaph表示“纪念碑，衣冠冢，墓葬雕塑”，the Cenotaph特指英国伦敦竖立的“一战阵亡将士纪念碑。

据悉，国民党主席连战在为参访团送行时发表讲话说：这是一次非常具有重大历史意义的访问活动。我们不能坐视两岸关系持续恶化，国民党抱着解决问题的态度来做事情，为台湾人民提供另一种选择。
