Bewildering American stance Upon arrival in China, Condi restate Washington's recognition of 'One China' and expresses their wish for peace in this region and they will be part in the effort to resolve the conflicts. One China. Peace. Be part of. These are the words that strikes many with petulance. Not when Washington show conflicting attitude with its state level policy. Esrtwhile opposition to Beijing's anti-secession law has strained bilateral relation. The Bush-regime labelled China's resolution as "unhelpful". Citing "grave concern", the US House of Representatives approves a resolution to condemn the move. Washington objected the approach saying the attempt to solve the problem as unilateral and is unpeaceful. Strange! Washington has been consistently and uninterruptibly over-arming Taiwan. Such an empowering move to the Taiwanese regimes pose the greatest impediment to peaceful reunification. One moment President Bush describe the Taiwanese separatists as "mosquitoes" whilst pressuring the island to buy America's expensive military package. So, it would seem that Taiwan's unilateral and provocative breakaway is acceptable but the same principle is not applicable for the sovereign state who owns the island. If you don't see the irony of that I don't know what it is. This is a hypocritical position and a cynical commitment at its best. Beijing retorted the criticism as "groundless", "unreasonable" and "irresponsible". China reiterated its affirmative action is meant to kill off any hope for a unilateral and forceful independence move by its pro-splitting camps in its renegade island province - Taiwan. If anything, Condi's visit and prior to the visit's reciprocative gesture in
acknowledgement of China's improving record on key issues has temporarily
softens the heat by urging wider and increasing cooperations in other fields of
interests. Clearly, the US is more comfortable with a mighty economic China but
not a militarily powerful and politically influential one.
