Calm waters agitated all of a sudden
Sammy bbs.chinadaily.com.cn  Updated: 2005-03-22 08:20

I believe the North Korean issue was going well during the late Clinton administration. There were some discussions and progress in the unification talk of the two Koreas (which it should be only one).

Some of the Korean people talked about the lost relatives that they were glad to encounter and hug after long years of separation due to the division of Korea...The Korean issue was at a moment getting in harmony to a possible accord of reunification.

Then came the Bush administration and changed the American policy toward North Korea. Everything suddenly changed. Being labeled as one of the "Axis of Evil" countries comes the threat of possible invasion etc...Then it came out that North Korea was arming itself with Nukes, having developed and owned Nuclear arms etc. etc…

I believe North Korea with fear that it would be invaded started to arm itself for defense purposes, probably thinking if I am a nuclear power some one thinks twice before attacking me... And at the same time its people have suffered shortages of basic living materials... So I say why these calm waters were agitated all of the sudden with the Bush administration... Maybe to create fear and sell more arms in the volatile area, making more profits to the arms manufacturers who are waiting for such opportunities at home... Now, they are using un-diplomatic tactics and agitating the situation further to the brink of hostility…

We all know that North Korea is not a democratic nation, and that is their problem, but, there are a lot of non-democratic nations in the world worse than North Korea. Is America the savior? or like Bush says he talks to God and he should save the world from "evil". You cannot bring democracy to a nation with force. Democracy must be acquired by the will of the people who want it. When they get tired of their way of life they may change it.
