Roommate must speak English, needs degree
(China Daily)
Updated: 2005-03-21 10:16

A roommate-wanted web ad has stirred complaints from interested tenants.

A Beijing landlord placed the Internet ad to let a room in his flat for 400 yuan (US$48) a month - quite a low price for Beijing - but emphasized that prospective tenants must be good at oral English and should hold at least a university degree.

A man named Zou called to ask about the room but soon became frustrated when the landlord started interviewing him in English as if he were applying for a job.

The landlord claimed he is a graduate of Tsinghua University and now works at a foreign company.

Zou felt angry and gave up on the idea of staying at the man's home, the news website Xinhuanet.com reports.

Well, it is the landlord's room to rent.
