Environment improved in lower reaches of Yellow River (crienglish.com) Updated: 2005-03-20 11:17 The environment in the lower reaches of the Yellow
River has improved due to better long-term management practices.
The Yellow River, China's second largest river, has suffered serious
environmental degradation and wet land shrinkage in its lower reaches due to a
huge decrease in its water level.
The efforts have so far improved over 200 square kilometers of marsh land and
contributed to a spurt in the birth rate of some species on the verge of
extinction.
The Chinese government has used administrative, legal and economic methods to
protect and improve the river's condition.
