The European Commission (EU) proposed on the 14th that the EU Council of Ministers should immediately authorize the EU to start negotiation with China on the liberalization of the aviation market.

Barrault, an EU member in charge of EU's transportation affairs, also said on the same day that new aviation markets, established by the EU and partner states based on mutual trust, will provide significant impetus to the development of the global aviation industry.

In order to strengthen Sino-EU cooperation in aviation, it is reported that a Sino-EU aviation summit will be held in Beijing in June this year.

The European media generally believe that China will become the largest Asian aviation market in the next 10 years. The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and the 2010 Shanghai World Expo will greatly boost the development of a highly efficient and modern aviation industry in China.

It is learned that the EU also suggested that it would commence negotiations with Russia on opening up the aviation market. EU-US negotiation started in 2003 and is still in progress.
