Liu Xiang and Xing Huina up for Awards

Liu Xiang and Xing Huina have been nominated for the Laureus World Newcomer of the Year.

China's Olympic gold medal athletes, Liu Xiang and Xing Huina are in line for further honors after being nominated for the Laureus World Sports Awards today.

Olympic 110 meters hurdles gold medalist Liu Xiang and 10,000 meters champion Xing Huina have been short-listed for the Laureus World Newcomer of the Year prize.

Nominated with Liu Xiang are Russia's US Open tennis winner Svetlana Kuznetsova, France's first Olympic swimming golden girl Laure Manaudou, Spain's Dani Pedrosa, at 19 the youngest-ever World Motorcycling 250cc champion.

The winners will be named at the Laureus World Sports Awards in Estoril, Portugal, on 16 May where the competitors face some stiff competition following votes by 528 media selection panel members from 82 countries.
