Davenport holds on to win Dubai title
Davenport, who lost her two previous finals this year at the Australian Open final and in Tokyo, was given a tough time by the 28th-ranked Serb before edging the decider for her totally the 46th career title. The American breezily wrapped up the first set as the 20-year-old Jankovic, who has won just one WTA title, made a nervous start,double-faulting four times including three in the opening game as she dropped her serve. Davenport was down 5-2 in the second set by Jankovic with an unplayable return down the line from the Serb, but fought off two set points on her own serve before Jankovic closed out the set in the next game with an ace. Jankovic managed an early break in the third set, but a netted backhand allowed Davenport back in and the youngster began to lookweary, which allowed Davenport, who showed her class, breaking to love in the final game with two winning returns. "It was a really long rally and I came up with some great shotsin that rally and that really saved me," said Davenport. "I never felt I played my absolute greatest here this week. But I felt like I came through some really difficult situations."

Lindsay Davenport claimed this year's first title of her own as the
world number one beat unseeded Jelena Jankovic 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 in the final of the
Dubai Open on Saturday.
