North China's Tianjin Municipality will start training male teachers to balance the gender of teachers in kindergartens.

Government authorities have entrusted the Xintiandi Training Center to provide the training at the end of the month.

The center is now recruiting 30 male college graduates with a knowledge of psychology, medical care, kinematics and nutrition.

The students are also required to be able to pronounce clearly and be non-smokers.

Through the 100-hour training course, the students will learn physiological and psychological characteristics of children under three, infant nutrition, education and relevant law.

Most kindergarten teachers in China are women, who are generally regarded as more considerate and gentler than men.

However, male kindergarten teachers are becoming increasingly popular because some children are timid because of a lack of sibling competition in the one-child families and also because of the influence of female teachers.

Many kindergartens welcome well-educated male teachers, believing that children need masculine guidance in pre-school education.
