[AP] | Duncan, named earlier in the day to start
for the Western Conference in the All-Star game Feb. 20, was injured with 8:40
left in the second period when Los Angeles' Caron Butler fell into his knee
after being fouled by Duncan.
Duncan immediately grabbed his knee with both hands, in obvious pain, and was
helped from the court. He walked to the San Antonio dressing room under his own
power, and returned to the Spurs' bench less than 3 minutes later. But he didn't
play during the rest of the second quarter, finishing the first half with eight
points in 11 minutes.
Duncan is averaging 21.4 points and 11.9 rebounds. The Spurs brought a 37-10
record into the game — best in the NBA and the best start in franchise history.
