Guangdong geared up for flu
(Shenzhen Daily)
Updated: 2005-02-04 10:59

Guangdong health authorities Wednesday urged local governments to take precautions against flu and bird flu in an official notice.

As February and March are high-risk months for SARS infections, the authorities also urged hospitals to closely monitor children with pneumonia.

Cities within the province should set up a speedy response system for outbreaks and arrange drills, the notice said.

The notice also urged inoculations for students and the elderly. Hospitals should remain on high alert and report to disease control centers if any flu patients were involved in the poultry sector.

Provincial authorities will send medical teams to inspect flu control measures in eight cities including Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Zhuhai.
