The Italian Bellini Museum Renaissance Art Collection Exhibition is being held in Guangzhou until February.
After three exhibitions in Nanjing of Jiangsu Province, Shanghai and Shenzhen of Guangdong Province last year, the Italian Bellini Museum Renaissance Art Collection Exhibition is being held in this southern city and will last until February 20.

The Bellini Museum is a private museum in Florence, Italy. The family of Bellini began collecting and trading antiques and art works during the Renaissance, and has become one of the most renowned private museums in the world.

Starting from December 28, the museum has exhibited a total of 121 antiques of Italian Renaissance art at the Guangdong Museum of Art, including 36 sculptures, 22 paintings and 16 handicrafts and many other art works.

Among the most eye-catching are Leonardo da Vinci's "Ancient Horse" and Michelangelo Buonarroti's "Taking Jesus Down from the Cross." The latter was created in the 16th century, and is a painted wooden carving bas relief, and is probably the most precious work of art among more than 20,000 pieces in the Bellini family's private collection, according to Luigi Bellini, curator of the museum.

Another masterpiece of Michelangelo, the copied bronze "David," which was created by the great sculptor Andrea Verrochio in the 15th century, one century earlier than Michelangelo's work, is also being shown at the exhibition.

According to Bellini, most of the antiques on display at the exhibition are original works by Italian Renaissance artists, enabling Chinese people to enjoy the most typical arts during the period.

Bellini said that the exhibition aims at enhancing cultural exchange between China and Italy, adding that "different civilizations should communicate and learn from each other."

"The Renaissance art movement, the rebirth of ancient Greek and Roman art, began to take place in Italy in the 14th century, but I believe another great renaissance movement is happening now in China, which will make this ancient country create a greater civilization in the future," said Bellini.
