Workers were laying the concrete base for the future Shanghai Global Financial Center, to be built into the World's highest skyscraper, besides the Jinmao Building, the World's third-highest and China's highest building so far, on January 29, 2005, marking the beginning of the center's construction.

Upon completion in end-November 2007, the 104-storeyed and 492-meter-high center, covering a total construction area of 377,300 square meters, will be a world-class urban landmark specializing mainly in commerce and trade, hotel services, sightseeing and exhibition.[Newsphoto]
