Several local parks have plenty of activities ranging from ice sculptures to bullfights planned for those who decide to stay in the city over the coming Spring Festival.

More than 100 ice sculptures decorated with colorful lights will be brought to the city from Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, and go on display near Shanghai Hongkou Football Stadium on February 6 for three months.

The sculptures will be placed in a specially designed sealed hall set up near the stadium, which will cover an area of 1,500 square meters.

Visitors will also be able to view Siberian tigers walking leisurely in ice cages, or sit on ice sleighs pulled by dogs.

Waist drum dancers from Ansai, Shaanxi Province will show off their skills at the Oriental Pearl TV Tower square during the festival.

Dancers with a red drum tied to their waist hold a drumstick wrapped in red silk, and beat the drum rhythmically while dancing. At the climax of the dance, they will beat the drums while jumping into the air, uttering the sound "hai hai" excitedly to express their happiness and passion for the start of a new year.

Other types of folk performances, such Sichuan Opera, dances featuring the elements of Mogao Grottoes sculptures in Dunhuang, Gansu Province, as well as acrobatics and folk comedies, will be on show.

Visitors to the Heping Park can watch bullfights from Jinhua, Zhejiang Province, which is a traditional festivity there and less bloody than its Spanish equivalent.

Corridas aged two to six years old will fight against each other. Cockfights will be held before and in between the bullfights.
