Oil, gas prospecting top task in geological survey

China's Vice-Premier Zeng Peiyan Friday highlighted the prospecting of petroleum and gas as an important task of geological survey work.

Work staff engaged in geological survey should focus on prospecting of strategic mineral resources, Zeng said at a symposium soliciting opinions from officials with the Ministry of Land and Resources, China Geological Survey Bureau and some academicians on geology.

Zeng stressed the importance of the geological survey work, considering it key to easing the impact of resource shortages on economic growth.

He noted that major projects in geological survey should be launched in accordance to the overall layout of national economic and social development.

He asked to continue the comprehensive survey and assessment of geological environment in key economic zones, mineral belts and areas with latency of severe geological disasters.
