Diver's popularity takes a dip?

While many celebrities are winning people's hearts and respect for generously opening their wallets or visiting tsunami-hit areas, Chinese Olympic gold-medalist diver Tian Liang is in hot water over a controversial photo shoot.

About 200 people posted angry messages after a major mainland Web site reported that Tian planned to go ahead with a photo shoot in Malaysia on Sunday.

"Tian Liang is going on the trip to make money, while others are going for humanitarian aid. He is making all Chinese people lose face," wrote one Internet surfer.

There were also others fighting to defend the star diver. "What does Tian Liang have to do with the trip? It's all the agent company's decision.”

Following the uproar and to avoid further negative publicity, Tian has postponed his trip.
