The baby girl weighed more than 7 kg. Her body shape is similar to that of her mother, while her face is a mixture of her parents.

Kao's husband, Hong Kong movie star Simon Yam Tat-wah, said they were happy with the family's new member.

They said it was a good thing that the child was born just a couple of days before New Year's Day so the three could celebrate together.

"I was very emotional when looking at my daughter coming into the world. Sophia is a great mother. She read a lot of books on raising a child while she was pregnant," said Simon.

The first-time mother said she would breast-feed her baby. "I'll give her the best nutrition she can get to help her grow. I'm fully confident that I will be a good mother," she said.
