Lighting up Christmas
(Shanghai Daily)
Updated: 2004-12-17 10:57

Shanghai is now well into the beginning of the festive season which is a special time for family and friends to share.

What a better way to start the holiday season than by illuminating the best and most traditional symbol of all -- the Christmas tree!

Tonight, Xintiandi will hold its third annual New Year Lighting Ceremony. The theme of the golden season is all about sharing.

Xintiandi will celebrate this festival with children, some of whom are from underprivileged families in Luwan District. They will learn how to make gingerbread cookies, a delicious food for Christmas, at Zenterstage and all the cookies will be sold to raise funds for the Shanghai Charity Foundation.

After making gingerbread, children will hang wishing cards on the Christmas tree and move on to the New Year Lighting Ceremony where a cocktail reception will be held for the adults.

Date: December 17, 3:30-7pm
Venue: South Block Plaza, Xintiandi, 181 Taicang Rd
Tel: 6386-1818
