Ferguson expects AC Milan in Euro draw (Agencies) Updated: 2004-12-17 10:50
Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson thinks his team will be paired with
Italian giants AC Milan in the draw for the Champions League knockout round
tomorrow.
Milan, who won the last of their six European Cups in 2003, are one of five
teams, along with Juventus, Inter Milan, Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen, United
could face in the last 16.
"We've played Monaco, Inter Milan and Bayer Leverkusen twice...we've played
against Juventus so many times," Ferguson, who has never faced the Italian
champions in a competitive game during his 18 years at Old Trafford, told
United's website on Thursday.
"The only team that we haven't met is AC Milan... But I think fate will
probably throw them our way. I have that feeling."
As group runners-up, United will play the first leg at Old Trafford in late
February and the second leg away in early March.
United drew 1-1 with Milan in July during their pre-season tour of the United
States, the Italians winning a penalty shootout 9-8.
The two clubs have been drawn together twice in European Cup semi-finals,
with Milan winning through both times.
They first met three months after the Munich air disaster had decimated the
English team in 1958, and United's defence of the trophy in 1969 was also ended
by Milan.
