The popular chain finally comes to Beijing
(City Weekend)

Prawn Korma
Started in Macau and with thirteen restaurants already in operation across China, India Kitchen has finally made its debut in Beijing. Located just north of the Riverside Cafe, India Kitchen brings quantity rather than quality to an already crowded market place. With a menu of over 160 dishes, they pretty much cover every major kitchen in the sub-continent with variants as diverse as curried crab and eel.

Although one of most well eaten dishes of all time, their version of chicken tikka is a must have. Well-marinated in yogurt and spices, the chicken was wonderfully creamy and much richer than normal, with a palpable but not overpowering taste of ginger and garlic. Another dish worthy of mention was the lamb korma with potatoes, which came in a rich coconut and cream sauce.

The main dishes were accompanied by an assortment of curried vegetables and saffron rice with cashews that simply helped fill that gaping hole in the stomach rather than satisfied any culinary cravings. However, while prices are comparable, portions are definitely smaller than competitor restaurants.

The decor was an odd mix of Chinese 'hardwood' furniture plus a large wall plaster of Hindi deities for good measure. Service was excellent and the staff is being versed in English. They deliver to the surrounding areas.

Place: 2/F, 2 Sanlitun Beixiaojie (Southwest of Capital Mansion)
