Guangzhou seeks climbers with courage
A Guangzhou group is seeking 20 mountain climbers from throughout the country to challenge a 1,210-meter summit in Conghua Shimen National Forest Park on Dec. 25 and 26. A Xinhuanet report said Monday that the Tiantangding, or Paradise Summit, was four times higher than Baiyuan Mountain and 675m higher than Maofeng Mountain. It is precipitous and the habitat of wild animals. It has never been conquered, according to the expedition organizing committee. Lu, the head of Shimen park, said Tiantangding was the only surviving original forest in Guangzhou and had been out of bounds for humans for the past 50 years. It required courage to ascend to the peak, the organizing committee said. The climbing group will be equipped with a satellite phone and 10 GPS walkie-talkie in case of emergency. Doctors and an ambulance will be on hand round-the-clock during the expedition. Applicants can log on to www.51friend.net to register. The 20-member team will include 10 women and 10 men. |
